About this board game
Wizard’s Academy is a cooperative game of magical experimentation for 1–6 players, with games lasting around 180 minutes. Players take the roles of students whose first year of magical study has not gone particularly well.
Each game begins with the selection of a scenario. The apprentices might need to summon and bind a demon to steal its powers, defend the academy from an army of Imps, or impress an academy inspector by demonstrating their mastery of magic.
To cast spells, players move around the academy collecting glyphs. The effects of those spells are initially unknown, so experimentation is essential. By trying different things, the students gradually learn how to manipulate the academy, its creatures, and even the fates themselves.
- Cooperative play for 1–6 players
- Scenario-based magical challenges
- Experimental spellcasting with initially unknown effects
- A 180-minute play time suited to an involved fantasy adventure
Success depends on discovering useful magic while dealing with the consequences of reckless experimentation. Monsters and elemental forces may be summoned accidentally, and the academy can be reduced to smoking rubble if the students cannot achieve their goals in time.
With its collection of scenarios and unpredictable spell discovery, Wizard’s Academy turns magical education into a dangerous group challenge. The students may be inexperienced, distracted, or more interested in power and profit than studying, but they must work together if the academy is to survive.
