About this board game

Anomia X is a fast-paced, irreverent party game for 3–6 players that takes around 60 minutes to play. First released in 2017, it challenges players to draw on questionable common knowledge while racing to answer under pressure.

Players flip category cards until the symbols on two players’ cards match. When a match appears, those players face off, each trying to give an example of the category shown on the other player’s card. The rules are simple, but finding the right answer becomes much harder when the clock is effectively ticking.

The categories in Anomia X are decidedly NSFW, poking fun at society’s underbelly and the more inappropriate corners of what people know. A familiar answer may seem obvious in theory, yet pressure can make your brain work in unexpectedly different ways.

• Symbol matching: Flip cards and watch for matching symbols.
• Face-offs: Race an opponent to name an example from their category.
• Wild Cards: Create unexpected matches and sudden challenges.
• Cascading action: Losing a card can trigger another face-off, so one contest may quickly lead to the next.

Everyone needs to stay alert because a turn can appear at any time. Wild Cards and cascading face-offs keep the action unpredictable, while the irreverent categories invite laughter, hesitation, and spectacularly bad answers.
