About this board game
Gateway: Uprising is a deck-building card game for 2–4 players, playable in about 60 minutes, in which insurgent wizards fight to reclaim the Great City of Gateway.
Each player begins with the same basic resources: insurgent wizards, merchants, and a magical Runestone. From there, each player develops a distinct force by drafting new wizards, heroes, and magical creatures into their ranks.
Build an army capable of defeating and defending Gateway’s districts. Successfully liberating a district grants access to a special power, which might provide cheaper resources, additional defenses, or the ability to damage foes from afar. However, rival insurgents can attempt to take your districts, while Chancellor Gideon’s forces and the invading Drueggar threaten the city.
- Draft wizards, heroes, and magical creatures to expand your ranks.
- Liberate districts to gain unusual and powerful abilities.
- Use one-time Runestone spells to alter battles or temporarily increase your resources.
- Earn victory points by defeating the city guard and Drueggar Horde, controlling districts, or using special insurgent abilities.
Runestones can turn the tide of battle instantly or provide a temporary boost to your coffers. Once used, however, they become empty shells and are discarded for the rest of the game, making each spell a significant choice.
Time is critical in Gateway: Uprising. If the Drueggar capture every city district, the game ends immediately for both the insurgents and Gateway’s citizens. Claim territory, strengthen your deck, and gather enough victory points before the invading monsters overwhelm the city.
