About this board game
Kodama 3D is a 2–4-player board game with an approximately 40-minute play time, in which players grow trees in three-dimensional space.
Each player builds their own tree by selecting branches from a shared 4×4 grid of branch tiles. To choose the branches they want to add, players move their kodama pieces around the grid, creating a direct connection between movement and tree construction.
As branches are added, players must pay attention to what each new piece touches. When a newly placed branch does not match the branch or elements it contacts, its player chooses a goal card from those currently available. These cards provide the goals that players will pursue throughout the game.
- Move kodama pieces around a 4×4 grid.
- Select branch tiles for your growing tree.
- Gain goal cards when a branch placement does not match what it touches.
- Score all collected goal cards after placing 12 branches.
The game continues until every player has placed 12 branches on their tree. Players then score all of their goal cards, and the player with the most points wins.
With its focus on building in three dimensions, Kodama 3D offers a distinct take on tree construction. The shared branch grid, mobile kodama pieces, and goal-card system define the choices players make as their trees take shape.
