About this board game
Gettysburg: A Time for Heroes is a card-driven two-player battle game with an approximately 90-minute play time, released in 2024. Based on the award-winning Chancellorsville 1863, it recreates the uncertainty and pressure of the Gettysburg campaign with wooden pieces, point-to-point movement, and a cohesion system.
The battle begins with no troops around Gettysburg. Neither Lee nor Meade knows exactly when their forces will arrive: some units may appear early, while others can be significantly delayed. This uncertain arrival order shapes the developing contest and forces both sides to respond to a battlefield that changes over time.
Wooden pieces represent Union Corps and Confederate Divisions. Their condition is tracked through cohesion, which reflects strength, fatigue, and morale during the battle. Movement follows key areas connected by point-to-point routes, keeping attention focused on the strategic locations that decide the outcome.
- Card-driven gameplay: fight the battle through a card-based system.
- Uncertain arrivals: units may reach the battlefield early or face significant delays.
- Cohesion tracking: monitor strength, fatigue, and morale.
- Strategic objectives: contest important battlefield points as the half-days pass.
For the Confederates, victory depends on occupying strategic points, with the requirements changing according to the current half-day. The longer the battle lasts, the more challenging Confederate victory becomes. The Union must prevent these occupations while avoiding the collapse of the Army of the Potomac, which occurs after losing three Army Corps.
With its shifting arrivals and mounting pressure, Gettysburg: A Time for Heroes puts the fate of both armies in the balance of a pivotal battle.
