About this board game
Iron Tide: Panzers in the Ardennes is a 2–4-player World War II strategy game about the Battle of the Bulge, with an approximately 360-minute play time. Set on December 16, 1944, it portrays the German offensive against a quiet, lightly held sector of the Allied lines.
Combat-honed panzer units, veterans, and conscripts advance against untried and battle-depleted Allied formations. Scattered, over-extended, and out-gunned units must hold on as reinforcements rush into the expanding battle and confront the oncoming Iron Tide.
The game uses a strength chit-draw mechanic to represent uncertainty in training, combat, and the fog of war. Battalions have set combat values, while regiments and brigades draw their combat strengths from chits showing the probable effectiveness of troops with particular levels of training and equipment.
Players are encouraged not to inspect the enemy side beyond what is visible on top of its hidden stacks. As a result, carefully prepared plans can be upset—or rewarded—by unexpected values revealed during play. Combined arms, artillery, aircraft, and armor all weigh heavily in the outcome, while the uncertain strength of the game pieces supports a high solitaire rating and varied replays.
