About this board game
GYM is a team-based strategy game for 2, 4, or 6 players that plays in about 20 minutes. Inspired by gym class team picking, it challenges two teams to select Kids, influence the events, and finish with the highest cumulative score.
The game unfolds in two distinct phases. During the Pick phase, each team member chooses a Kid from the lineup and adds that Kid to their hand. The selection process is more than a simple draft: acquiring a brat gives a team member influence over which four of the six available events will be played next.
In the Play phase, players take turns placing a Kid at one of the four chosen events. Each Kid played also enables an event action, creating opportunities to manipulate player hands, change Kid positions, and affect the developing roster. These actions make timing and team coordination important throughout the event phase.
- Play on one of two teams with 2, 4, or 6 players.
- Pick Kids from the lineup and manage them in hand.
- Use event actions to manipulate hands, Kid positions, and more.
- Choose four events from six when a brat gives your team influence.
- Score across four events to determine the winning team.
Brats bring another tactical twist when played. They allow a teammate to reposition a Coach, reducing chaos at an event while making roster changes more difficult. Every choice can therefore help your team in one area while limiting its options in another.
With its distinctive team-picking system, shifting event choices, and interactive play, GYM turns a familiar schoolyard setup into a compact contest of strategy and manipulation. It is number 10 in the Pack O Game series and was released in 2017.
