About this board game

Amoeba Wars is a 1981 board game for 2–6 players, with an estimated playing time of 150 minutes. Players take the roles of remnants of a fallen Galactic civilization returning to their former Home Sector.

The sector has been overrun by Giant Space Amoebas, while renegade doomsday machines—relics of the old empire—also threaten the region. From their starting positions at the corners of a hexagon-grid game board, players direct fleets of ships into the contested sector.

Players seek to capture solar systems and push back the amoeba infestations and hostile machines. The struggle leads toward the central solar systems, where control becomes crucial to the effort to reclaim the old homeworld.

  • Start from a corner of the hexagon-grid board
  • Direct fleets of ships across the Home Sector
  • Capture solar systems
  • Push back Giant Space Amoebas and renegade doomsday machines
  • Try to control the central solar systems and retake Saestor

At the center of the board lies Saestor, the former homeworld and the ultimate focal point of the return. Players must work their way back toward this central solar system while contending with the infestations and machines left behind by the fallen civilization.

With its galactic-reclamation setting, fleet movement, and central objective, Amoeba Wars presents a large-scale contest for control of a lost home sector. Its 150-minute play time gives 2–6 players room to pursue the struggle across the hexagon grid and attempt to restore Saestor.
