About this board game
Waste Knights is a post-apocalyptic adventure game for 2–4 players, with sessions lasting about 240 minutes, set in the ruined Australian continent known as the Waste.
Players take the roles of heroes travelling across a modular hexagonal map, fighting monstrous enemies, completing Tasks, acquiring Gear Cards, and building enough Reputation to fulfil the current Mission. Everyone shares the Mission’s overall goal, but only the quickest and most cunning player can win.
Survival depends on careful management of four dangerous resources: Fuel, Ammo, Health, and Radiation. Reaching a critical level in any of them can mean almost certain death. Vehicles help heroes move through the wastelands, while Wasteland Cards introduce threats and exploration challenges at locations across the 37-hex map.
- Combat: Set the range, use Combat Cards for different manoeuvres, and choose between melee and ranged weapons.
- Tasks: Complete short quests from the Waste’s inhabitants through tactical decisions, Skill tests, or by obtaining specific goods.
- Barter: Trade Gear Cards by colour in a world without a currency system.
- The Waster: The person opposite the active player helps control the game by choosing threats and making decisions for enemies during combat.
Combat in Waste Knights is deadly, but success can bring valuable rewards. The barter system also supports different approaches: some players may prevail through strength, while others rely on their brains and resource management.
With its dystopian setting, shared objectives, dangerous travel, and constantly contested resources, Waste Knights presents a tense race for survival in a broken Australia where courage, cunning, and careful preparation can make the difference.
