About this board game

Heroes of the World is a light strategy game for 2–5 players, with games lasting about 75 minutes. Players guide historical heroes through two epochs—ancient and modern—as civilizations grow, territories open, and cultures advance.

At the beginning, the map contains five areas: the Mediterranean, Africa, the Middle East, India, and China. Once these areas have been evaluated, Russia, Europe, Southeast Asia, and America become accessible, expanding the scope of the game.

Players choose notable figures such as Julius Caesar, Nebuchadnezzar, Lao-Tse, Shakespeare, or Mozart. Each hero has special abilities that determine which areas can be used and help shape the course of a player’s civilization.

  • Grow populations in one or more eligible areas.
  • Draw cultural advancement tokens at random and place them on the map.
  • Attack opposing pieces to challenge other players’ presence.
  • Take money to fund future development.

Money can be spent on Wonders of the World, including the Hanging Gardens and the Great Wall. Players can also use their resources to make migrations of peoples, adding another way to influence the developing world.

Victory points come from building civilization tokens. After three or four placements, depending on the territory, the player with the most pieces earns additional points. The player in second place receives half that amount, while the third player scores points equal to the lowest token value.

With its historical leaders, evolving map, cultural advancement, and area-based scoring, Heroes of the World combines population growth, conflict, resource management, and civilization building across a changing global stage.
