La Familia Hort

About this board game

La Familia Hort is a family-weight farming game for 2–4 players, playable in about 40 minutes. Players manage a farm through a series of rounds, hoping to become the most experienced farmer and inherit Granny Hortensia’s land.

Granny Hortensia dies without leaving a will, but returns as a ghost when the moon turns red. She visits her four grandchildren three times, with each appearance testing their farming ability. After her third visit, the player with the most experience points wins the inheritance.

Careful management of money, water, and fertilizer is central to every game. Players build their farms by purchasing crop, utensil, and animal tiles from the market, then prepare their holdings for sale while adapting to the weather and the active round card.

Each round follows five steps:

• Market: Draw the indicated crop, utensil, and animal tiles.
• Purchase: Players successively buy one tile from the market.
• Fertilizer: Each player receives a fertilizer counter to place on their own crops or, depending on the round, on rivals’ crops.
• Watering: Players use water counters on their crop and animal tiles, with the available water determined by the weather.
• Sale: Products are exchanged for coins and experience points. Fully watered crops must be sold, and fertilizer helps achieve the highest sales value.

The game continues until the third red moon round card appears, triggering Granny Hortensia’s final visit. In La Familia Hort, every purchase, resource decision, and sale contributes to the race for farming experience.
