About this board game

WarpWar is a fast-playing mini-game of interstellar maneuver and combat for two players, with a typical play time of 30 minutes. Released in 1977, it challenges you to out-think your opponent in a completely diceless combat system.

Before the battle begins, design your own spaceships by selecting their equipment and capabilities. Choose beams, screens, missile tubes, and power drive, then decide how to use your available weapon power and tactics. Every decision contributes to the struggle for control of the stars.

Ships can move through space or jump along the warp lines connecting stars. To win, capture the enemy star bases. Since combat involves no chance, maneuvering, ship design, power settings, and tactical choices all play a central role in determining the outcome.

  • Custom spaceship design with beams, screens, missile tubes, and power drive
  • Movement through space and along warp lines connecting stars
  • Diceless combat based on tactics and weapon power settings
  • Enemy star bases as the central victory objective

WarpWar includes an introductory level for two players age 12 and up, making it possible to learn the basic system before exploring its broader possibilities. Advanced rules add system ships and technological advancement, allowing newer ships to gain an advantage.

The game includes rules, a map, and counters. With its compact format and emphasis on deliberate decisions, WarpWar presents a focused contest of interstellar maneuver, ship construction, and combat.
