About this board game

Legions of Steel is a fast-paced miniatures combat game for 2–5 players, with games lasting about 180 minutes. Set in the not-so-distant future, it places humanity under siege from mechanical horrors and challenges players to survive through tactical decision-making.

One side commands an elite group of Commandos in high-tech powered armour. Their missions take them into the base complexes of the Overlord computer, where they must fight to destroy the source of the robotic threat.

The opposing player maneuvers a horde of robotic minions led by the terrifying Mark I Assault Fiend, described as ten feet of raw terror. The clash is shaped by positioning, weapon selection, and the ability to anticipate an opponent’s plans.

Legions of Steel uses only six-sided dice to resolve firefights, keeping its core mechanics straightforward while leaving plenty of room for tactical play. Luck matters, but victory requires more than simply rolling well: before you can out-fight your opponent, you must first out-think them.

  • Blasters for ranged combat
  • Deadbolt Launchers for powerful attacks
  • Kinetic Pulse grenades for explosive battlefield options
  • The Napalm-X Flame Weapon for devastating firepower

Released in 1992, this science-fiction battle game combines accessible dice-driven firefights with a broad range of tactical considerations. Whether directing armoured Commandos or the Overlord computer’s robotic forces, players must carefully choose how to approach each mission and confrontation.
