About this board game
Palmyra is a tactical tile-laying game for 1–5 players, with games lasting about 45 minutes. Set in the first-century Roman province of Palmyra, it places you under Caesar’s orders as you compete to become the province’s next governor.
Expand the Roman sphere of influence by placing new land tiles, sending out your army, and moving your censor to collect taxes. Each decision can earn valuable tiles and coins for the Roman Empire, but every opportunity must be weighed carefully.
- Place land tiles to develop and extend your territory.
- Move your army and censor to earn new tiles and collect taxes.
- Manage your income so future tax opportunities do not become sparse.
Palmyra’s rules are few, yet its tactical choices are substantial. Greed can be costly: collecting too many taxes too quickly may leave less income available later. At the same time, watch how opponents place their tiles, because a new tile can cut you off and force you to lose valuable time.
From time to time, Caesar may be especially impressed by your development and provide extra support. Use every advantage while planning around the changing landscape and the actions of your rivals.
When all 120 coins have been collected, the game ends. The player with the most coins wins, making careful expansion, timing, and tax collection essential to success. Released in 2013, Palmyra offers a focused contest of Roman development and tactical positioning.
