About this board game
String Railway: Transport is an individual railway game for 2–5 players, with a playing time of approximately 60 minutes, or about 15 minutes per player. It builds its play area from colored strings representing different types of terrain.
At the beginning of the game, all stations are randomly placed inside the boundary string, and each station receives two goods cubes. Unlike the original String Railway, the stations are already on the map, giving players a ready-made network of destinations to connect and serve.
Each turn, every player places one string that connects stations. Players then spend action points from their locomotive to move goods cubes between stations. Moving a cube from one station to another costs 1 action point. A cube is scored when it reaches a station that matches its colour.
- Begin with a locomotive providing 3 action points per turn.
- Upgrade to better locomotives that provide up to 6 action points.
- Move goods cubes between connected stations and deliver them to matching colours.
- Use white cubes as wild cubes when scoring cargo sets.
After five rounds, players score their delivered cubes. Sets of five different colours are worth 15 points, while sets of four, three, and two cubes score 10, 6, and 3 points respectively. Remaining single-cube sets are worth 1 point each.
Missions also affect the final result: unfulfilled missions cost 2 points, while perfectly fulfilled missions provide a 5-point bonus. String Railway: Transport is a standalone game, not an expansion, and its components cannot be combined with the original String Railway because the stations differ and there is no river.
