About this board game

Trigger! is a 20-minute reaction and coordination party game for 3–8 players, challenging everyone to answer true-or-false questions as quickly as possible.

To begin, place the plastic disk in the centre of the table. Each player assigns one hand to “true” and the other to “false”—or simply uses one hand for each answer. A question is then read aloud, and everyone races to place the hand matching their answer on the disk, creating a pile of hands.

Once every player has answered, the stack is scored from top to bottom. The upper hand is worth +1 point for a correct answer or -1 point for an incorrect one; the next hand is worth +2 or -2, and so on. In an eight-player game, the hand on the disk scores +8 or -8, making speed, timing, and confidence important.

The questions draw on several kinds of information, including:

• The person reading the question
• The individual player
• The environment or location
• General knowledge

Because the correct answer may depend on the number of players, the players themselves, or the setting, familiar-looking questions can still demand attention. Once a hand is placed, its answer cannot be changed, so every response carries a risk.

The game ends when a player reaches a specified score, such as 30 points in an eight-player game. Additional variations include changing hands and playing in teams.
