About this board game

€uro Crisis is a tactical and satirical board game for 3–4 players, with a playing time of about 90 minutes. Each player takes the role of a bank seeking to enrich itself at the expense of struggling European states.

A game covers three years, with each year divided into four quarters. In every quarter, players choose their actions simultaneously, then resolve those actions in turn order. You can borrow money from the European Central Bank and lend it to struggling states, earning attractive interest rates—especially when a state is close to bankruptcy.

That lending carries a serious risk: a state may be forced to restructure its debts. Managing borrowed money and judging when to take that risk are central parts of the game. Your earnings can also be used to acquire gold and weapons, each with a distinct role in the struggle for profit and influence.

  • Gold lets you bid on privatizations of state property, which are especially valuable at the end of the game.
  • Weapons can defend your privatizations from an angry mob or be given to citizens so another bank’s privatization becomes public again.
  • Lobbying helps you gain the government or reforms you want.

At the end, the player with the most points wins. Privatizations are the main source of value, while income, gold, weapons, and remaining money can also contribute points.

With simultaneous choices, shifting opportunities, and plenty of interaction, €uro Crisis invites players to gamble with borrowed money in a pointed parody of the euro crisis itself.
