About this board game
Outremer is a man-to-man small-scale combat game for 2–6 players, with an approximate playing time of 180 minutes, set in the time of the 3rd Crusade in 1146.
Play Outremer as a complete game or expand Cry Havoc and/or Siege with its forces and rules. As a stand-alone title, it includes three scenarios, two maps, and a scenario generation system for creating additional engagements.
The game focuses on individual combatants: each man is represented by a separate counter, while women are also included among the depicted characters. A combatant may use multiple counters or both sides of a single counter to show different conditions and configurations, including healthy and wounded states and mounted or unmounted status where applicable.
- Man-to-man combat: Each counter represents one person and includes a colored illustration, name, attack value, defense value, and movement value.
- Scenario play: Fight through three included scenarios or use the scenario generation system.
- Campaign progression: Character advancement rules support a campaign game played with the included mapboard of Palestine.
- Flexible formats: The game is well suited to play-by-email and can also be adapted for solitaire play.
The campaign mapboard adds a broader framework to the individual battles, allowing character advancement to connect separate games. Alongside its stand-alone content, the system’s compatibility with Cry Havoc and Siege makes Outremer a way to extend an existing combat game collection.
With detailed individual counters, multiple scenarios, generated engagements, and campaign rules, Outremer offers a focused depiction of small-scale combat during its Crusade-era setting.
