About this board game

Power Failure is a tableau-building, dexterity card game for 2–4 players, played in about 45 minutes. Compete to build the most productive power grid while meeting rising demand and completing energy contracts.

On each turn, you take three actions to acquire resources, build different kinds of power plants, and activate them to generate energy. Every decision helps shape your tableau and brings you closer to supplying a bustling city with the megawatts it needs.

Power production is never entirely safe. Depending on the actions you take and the types of plants you operate, you may be forced to stack blocks on the Carbon Tower. As the tower grows more precarious, so does the risk of an environmental catastrophe.

  • Build and use a varied tableau of power plants.
  • Acquire resources and generate energy to meet demand.
  • Manage the Carbon Tower and the consequences of its collapse.
  • Race to complete energy contracts and produce the most megawatts.

The tower introduces a physical element of suspense to every game. Rash choices can set everyone back when the tower falls, so efficient energy production must be balanced with careful risk management.

In Power Failure, the winning strategy is not simply to build quickly. Players must judge when to push their grid further, when to accept environmental risk, and how to turn their available resources and plants into the greatest possible energy output.
