About this board game
La Venise du Nord is a strategy board game for 2–4 players, with games lasting around 60 minutes. Set in Bruges in 1452, it places each player in control of a wealthy bourgeois and a prestigious neighborhood in the “Venice of the North.”
Develop your district by establishing craftsmen who produce lace, luxury clothes, and jewelry. Decide whether to sell these goods at the town’s central market or export them through the city harbors. With three commodities producing three different goods, prices shift according to supply and demand, making timing and awareness of your opponents’ interests essential.
Each turn begins with two dice. One die moves the bourgeois pawn, while the other activates the tile where the pawn finishes its movement. Every tile offers a different power, so choosing a route and planning ahead are central to making the most of each turn.
- Craft and trade: Produce three types of goods and sell or export them.
- Dynamic prices: Respond to changing supply and demand.
- Tile powers: Use the distinct abilities provided by the modular board.
- Prestigious construction: Hire builders and architects to create beautiful bridges above Bruges’ canals.
The modular board supports replayability while helping keep play fast. In La Venise du Nord, successful players must balance production, commerce, movement, and construction, while carefully judging when to act and how their choices interact with the plans of everyone else.
