About this board game
HellRail: Third Perdition is a 2001 board game for 3–4 players with an approximately 60-minute play time. It is Mayfair’s update of the Galloglass game HellRail: Second Perdition, introducing several refinements to that earlier edition.
The major change in HellRail: Third Perdition is its expanded system of circle powers. The game includes many more of these powers than its predecessor, adding a broader range of possibilities to the updated design.
Circle powers are also randomly distributed rather than fixed in one arrangement. They can change during the game as well, making this version distinct from the earlier release and ensuring that the available powers are not necessarily the same from one stage of play to another.
- Designed for 3–4 players
- Approximately 60 minutes of play time
- More circle powers than in HellRail: Second Perdition
- Circle powers are randomly distributed and can change during the game
- Wooden train engines replace the earlier pewter engines
Another notable refinement is found in the components: the train engines are made of wood instead of pewter. This physical change accompanies the updated circle-power system and helps distinguish the 2001 edition.
With its revised design, expanded powers, and changing distribution system, HellRail: Third Perdition presents a refined take on the Galloglass game. It is a compact option for groups of three or four players looking for a roughly hour-long board game with a changing set of circle powers.
