About this board game

Backyard Chickens is a deck-building game for 2–5 players that takes about 60 minutes, inviting you and your neighbors to compete for the best flock on the block.

During the game, each player works to raise chickens, collect eggs, purchase supplies, and care for their flock. Your chickens’ wellbeing matters: failing to provide enough food and water makes them unhappy, affecting how well they perform and how valuable they are.

  • Collect eggs during your turn.
  • Purchase supplies for your flock.
  • Care for your chickens by feeding and watering them.
  • Build a flock worth enough points to compete for victory.

Unhappy chickens produce fewer eggs and are worth fewer victory points. They may even run away, so caring for your flock is an important part of building its value. The game balances the appeal of collecting eggs with the responsibility of keeping your chickens happy.

Play continues until a player’s flock is worth ten or more points. Once that happens, the player with the most points wins the game. This clear ending gives every player a shared goal while the neighborhood competition unfolds.

Released in 2022, Backyard Chickens offers a focused tabletop experience for groups of two to five. Its deck-building foundation and charming backyard theme combine collecting, purchasing, and flock care into a race to raise the most valuable chickens on the block.
