About this board game
Fake That! is a bluffing and deduction game for 4–8 players, with rounds lasting about 20 minutes. Released in 2020, it challenges players to decide whether outrageous statements are true or completely fabricated.
Each round, one player takes the role of Gullible and asks a wacky question. Every other player must respond with either the crazy truth or a big fat lie, creating a set of answers that may be equally surprising.
The liars’ goal is to sound convincing, while Gullible must try to uncover all of them. The catch is that Gullible must identify the deceivers without pointing out the right answer, making each decision a test of observation and persuasion.
- One player becomes Gullible each round.
- Other players choose between telling the truth and inventing a lie.
- Gullible attempts to expose every liar without selecting the correct answer.
The questions in Fake That! are built around strange claims and unexpected stories, such as a New Zealand cat known for stealing drying underwear, a newspaper publishing Santa Claus’s official death notice, or CIA agents communicating through their shoelaces. These peculiar scenarios give truthful answers and inventions the same wonderfully absurd starting point.
With its unusual prompts and simple round structure, Fake That! focuses on reading the table, delivering believable answers, and deciding whom to trust. It suits groups of 4–8 players looking for a quick contest of deception and detection.
