About this board game

The Lost Island is a roll-and-write game for 1–4 players, with a play time of about 40 minutes. Each player creates an island map by drawing different types of territories on their sheet.

At the beginning of each game, four scoring criteria are selected. These criteria are different in each game, giving players a new set of objectives to address as they fill in their maps.

On the active player’s turn, that player chooses which type of territory will be drawn. They then roll the dice and select a result to determine how much of the chosen territory to draw. The active player must plan carefully, since each territory type has a limited number of uses.

  • The active player chooses a territory type.
  • The dice determine the available amounts.
  • The active player selects one result for their map.
  • All other players choose an amount from the remaining dice and draw the territory type selected by the active player.

This shared dice decision keeps every turn relevant to the whole table. While one player controls the territory type, everyone must decide how to use the available results on their own sheet.

The game ends when a player can no longer draw on their map. Players then score their completed maps according to the four selected criteria. With its tales of impossible landscapes, towering forests, uphill rivers, and unique creatures, The Lost Island combines an evocative setting with a focused map-drawing challenge.
