About this board game
French Foreign Legion is a 60-minute board game for 2–3 players, inspired by the classic adventure films and serials about hard-cased Legionnaires defending a desert fort against hordes of fanatical tribesmen.
The action is fast, furious, and unpredictable. As the Bedouins rush the walls, they can throw grappling hooks and climb up for furious melees with the tough defenders. The central challenge is whether the fort’s walls can be held against overwhelming numbers.
When the outer defenses become difficult to maintain, the action may turn toward the inner buildings. The siege raises a series of dramatic questions: will dynamite breach the walls, and will the heat cause men to be seized by “the madness”? Every danger adds to the tense atmosphere of a cinematic desert defense.
- Defend a desert fort against large-scale assaults.
- Deal with grappling hooks, climbing attackers, and furious melees.
- Face the threat of dynamite breaching the walls.
- Contend with heat, “the madness,” and a brewing mutiny.
Discipline and strong defenses may be enough to stop the assault, but the besieged Legionnaires must withstand more than direct attacks. The possibility of mutiny and the pressure of relentless numbers make the fort’s survival uncertain until the final moments.
Released in 1982, French Foreign Legion captures the pulpy cliffhanger spirit of its source material. It presents a compact siege story filled with desperate defenses, sudden reversals, and the ever-present question of whether the walls—or the defenders—will hold.
