About this board game
Abandon Planet is a survival and betrayal board game for 4–8 players, played in about 80 minutes, where players race to escape Earth before a meteor apocalypse destroys the planet.
Each player must team up with a partner to gather enough resources, prepare a janky rocket, and launch into space. However, alliances are fragile: everyone is ultimately looking out for themselves, and a useful partner can quickly become a dangerous rival.
At the start of every turn, players secretly choose which direction to send their rocket. Their decisions are revealed simultaneously, after which players take turns collecting resources from the board or stealing them from one another. Planning your movement is only part of the challenge, since every choice can affect both your own escape plan and your relationship with the other players.
At the end of each round, a deadly meteor strikes. Its impact drastically changes the map and damages any rockets caught in its path. One player knows where the meteor will hit in advance, but deciding who deserves that information can reshape the alliances around the table.
- Secretly choose rocket directions, then reveal them simultaneously.
- Collect resources from the board or steal them from other players.
- Work with a partner while protecting your own chance to escape.
- Survive the meteor’s impact and one additional round after launching.
To win, you and one other player must both acquire enough resources, prepare your rocket, launch, and survive one more round without being robbed or destroyed. There is no limit to the number of teams that can succeed, so everyone—or almost everyone—may escape if the players cooperate. But once the first rockets launch, anyone left behind is stranded on the planet.
In Abandon Planet, survival depends on timing, negotiation, secrecy, and knowing when an alliance has stopped being useful. Those who reach space win; everyone else is obliterated by meteors.
