About this board game

Yuan: l’Art de la Guerre – Chine is a strategy game for 2 to 4 players, with each game lasting up to 60 minutes. Players compete to control a required number of temples at the end of a turn, while that target decreases by one every two turns.

Each player secretly programs actions behind a screen before all plans are revealed and resolved simultaneously on the central board. Success depends on choosing the right moment to develop your territory, strengthen your cities, or mobilize against rival provinces.

  • Development: expand peacefully through colonization or expansion.
  • Fortification: improve city defenses or increase production.
  • Militarization: create armies and attack enemy territories.

Because every player acts at the same time, you must be subtle and try to anticipate your opponents’ intentions. At the end of each round, players adjust their province and temple control levels in preparation for the next round. Province control can reduce action costs and enable more powerful actions.

The China box gives Yuan: l’Art de la Guerre its own distinctive setting and strategic possibilities. Some tiles feature rivers that create additional connections between provinces, while the included scenarios differ from those in the Mongolia version.

For larger groups, the China box can be combined with Yuan: l’Art de la Guerre – Mongolia to support 5 to 8 players. With its simultaneous programming, shifting temple objective, and balance of peaceful growth and military pressure, Yuan: l’Art de la Guerre – Chine offers a focused contest of planning and tactical judgment.
