About this board game

Magus: Aura Mortis is a competitive and cooperative strategy game for 2–5 players, with games lasting about 80 minutes. Players take the roles of powerful sorcerers who command heroes exploring and plundering the castle of their mentor, the archmage Ardeth.

In the main competitive mode, players race to complete missions and objectives while gathering 10 dominion points to become the new lord of the castle. Each player controls a hero and has spells that can alter the very structure of Ardeth’s castle, creating opportunities to advance while hindering opposing sorcerers.

On a turn, a player may perform up to two normal actions, along with any number of quick actions. Movement, attacks, and spellcasting are among the normal actions, while using knowledge, advancing missions, and activating relics are examples of quick actions.

  • Power energy: Green energy used to pay action costs.
  • Control energy: Purple energy used for other action costs.
  • Flexible reserves: As players gain energy, they may assign it between power and control according to their needs.

Magus: Aura Mortis also includes a cooperative mode in which the players work together against the powerful archmage Ardeth. They must travel through the castle, complete objectives, and reduce Ardeth’s dominion before he arrives for the final confrontation.

In this mode, dominion measures Ardeth’s strength. The players must lower it while preparing for his arrival, because when Ardeth appears, his accumulated dominion determines his life for the climactic battle.
