Vendel to Viking

About this board game

Vendel to Viking is a standalone prequel for 1–6 players, with games lasting about 120 minutes. Set between 550 and 800 CE, it places you in Nordic culture as you build your family’s legacy across generations.

Each turn represents a generation. Place members of your family on the map to access different effects in various locations, including worker actions. You can also elevate family members into formidable persons, helping your family evolve into one of the prominent families of the Viking era.

When a family member gains status, link them to a character card from the market and move that card to the achievement tree. The character then joins your family board, where both their presence in the tree and their place within your family affect the opportunities available to you for the rest of the game.

• Develop a family legacy over successive generations.
• Place family members on the map to access locations and actions.
• Recruit formidable persons through the character market.
• Build an achievement tree and pursue Future-level achievements.

Plan carefully before the centuries run out. The first player to hold two Future-level achievements in the achievement tree wins. If nobody reaches that goal within the set number of turns, the player with the most points is victorious.

Alongside its robust Solo Mode, Vendel to Viking offers a special link to its successor. Its end state can become the starting state for a game of Pax Viking, allowing the two games to be played together as a campaign.
