About this board game

Karo is a two-player abstract game set with an approximately 20-minute playing time, offering three different games in one box.

The set contains 24 black wooden tiles and 16 player pieces with unique markings on each side: eight red and eight white. These components support three distinct abstract challenges, each with its own central objective.

  • Vier Kreise: a variant of “Four in Row.”
  • Schleicher & Hüpfer: a race game.
  • Nix Wie Weg: try to move your pieces out of the playing field.

This variety gives Karo a broad range of play within a simple component set. Players can choose between a line-making challenge, a race, or a game focused on moving pieces away from the playing field.

The pieces’ unique markings on each side and their red-and-white colors help distinguish the players while adding flexibility to the set. The black wooden tiles complete the shared playing equipment for all three games.

Released in 2005, Karo is a compact choice for two players who enjoy abstract games and want more than one challenge from the same collection of components. Whether you prefer the “Four in Row” variant of Vier Kreise, the movement of Schleicher & Hüpfer, or the escape objective of Nix Wie Weg, the set presents three clearly different ways to play.
