About this board game

One Small Step: Deluxe Edition is a 2–4 player engine-building and worker-placement eurogame about the space race, with games lasting approximately 120 minutes. Lead either the United States or Soviet Union Space Agency as your team competes to achieve humanity’s first manned moon landing.

Each team coordinates two types of workers: Engineers and Administrators. On each turn, choose where to place a worker to gather resources, draft development cards, improve media coverage, recruit astronauts, upgrade resources, develop space flight capability, or prepare missions.

The type of worker you place changes the effect of a board action. Every action can be used only once per round, so your choices affect both rival teams and your own teammate, who may otherwise have used the action’s alternative effect.

• Gather and manage 9 different resources.
• Build drafted development cards to earn Victory Points.
• Recruit astronauts and expand your space flight capability.
• Launch unmanned and manned missions into space.
• Use media coverage to gain turn priority, resources, and one-time abilities.

Winning the media advantage can let you place your worker first in a round or claim a useful media bonus. Successful launches also upgrade a board action for both your team and your opponents, steadily changing the strategic possibilities throughout the game.

Launch enough manned missions to achieve the first manned moon landing before your rivals and trigger the end of the game. Afterward, the team with the most Victory Points wins by contributing the most to one of humanity’s greatest achievements.
