About this board game
Yum Yum Island is a 2019 game for 2–5 players that takes about 20 minutes to play. Players become pelicans trying to feed hungry animals before the giant on the island can take the food for himself.
Each animal is shown on a cardboard cutout with a raised second level that identifies its mouth. Inside the mouth, two numbers show how much vegetarian food and meat-based food the animal needs. The supply contains a mix of red and green food tokens, so choosing and placing the right pieces is essential.
On your turn, roll the die to determine the difficulty for the round. Then put on the blindfold, scoop up some food, reach toward the playing area, and try to place the tokens into an animal’s mouth without being able to see what you are doing.
- Roll the die to set the round’s difficulty.
- Use touch to guide food toward an animal while blindfolded.
- Match red and green food to the animal’s stated needs.
- Deal with food that falls out or does not match.
Food that misses the mouth, falls out, or does not match the animal’s needs is placed in the giant’s intestinal tract. Depending on the die roll, the other players may be allowed to give directions such as “Move left!” or “Pull your hand back!”, help recover one piece of food, or provide another form of aid during the round.
With its tactile feeding challenge, changing difficulty, and limited guidance, Yum Yum Island turns a simple task into a memorable test of coordination and communication.
