About this board game
Toulon, 1793 is an operational-level wargame for 2–5 players, with an approximate playing time of 540 minutes. It covers the siege of Toulon in southern France from 25 August to 21 December 1793.
The campaign begins with the landing of Anglo-Spanish forces, invited by the rebel Toulonnais, and continues through the evacuation of the town when their ships come under threat from batteries associated with the previously unknown Napoleon Bonaparte. The area-based system represents the campaign across a substantial section of the region.
Operation points are at the heart of play. Combined with an innovative combat, loss, and movement system, they create a vast number of decision points throughout the siege. Players must contend with the changing demands of an operational campaign while managing a conflict involving multiple forces and competing concerns.
- Spies and gendarmes add specialized elements to the campaign.
- Multinational forces bring associated cooperation issues.
- Reconnaissance and variable reinforcements add further uncertainty.
- Area-based play covers the campaign from Ollioules in the west to Sollies in the east.
The map reaches from Mount Farron in the north to Cap Cepet in the south, placing the siege within a defined regional battlefield. Released in 2014, Toulon, 1793 combines historical campaign scope with mechanics focused on movement, combat, losses, information, and operational decisions.
