About this board game

ILAN: Discovering Antarctic Life is a fast-paced card game for 2–5 players that takes about 40 minutes. Each player becomes an investigator studying the remarkable life forms of Antarctica and the biodiversity of Earth’s coldest corners.

Draw cards from the deck and play biodiversity cards to develop the ecosystem around you. By chaining multiple actions together, you can outplace your rivals and create trophic chains that generate Victory Points. The larger the trophic chain, the more points it scores.

The ecosystem can change throughout the game. Human Factor and Natural Factor cards alter the conditions, affecting either the species in play or the players themselves. These effects can shift the course of the game as investigators respond to new circumstances.

Players can interact with one another and with the species found in the Antarctic Circumpolar Current. This current is represented by a line of cards that predators may feed from, while some species can migrate along it.

  • Draw cards and play biodiversity cards.
  • Chain actions to outplace rival investigators.
  • Build trophic chains to earn Victory Points.
  • Use the changing ecosystem conditions created by Human and Natural Factor cards.
  • Interact with species in the Antarctic Circumpolar Current.

With several ways to interact and pursue victory, ILAN: Discovering Antarctic Life invites players to explore Antarctic biodiversity through connected actions, species relationships, and changing ecosystem conditions.
