About this board game

Frischfleisch is a survival board game for 2–6 players, with games lasting about 120 minutes. Released in 1999, it places each player in charge of a unique group of people stranded on a desert island.

Rescue is being attempted, but help will not arrive for another month. Until then, players must guide the members of their group around the island and keep them alive with whatever food they can find.

Foraging is essential, but it is not always successful. When the search for food comes up short, the stranded characters may face a far darker alternative: using a fellow survivor’s meaty thigh as a substitute.

In Frischfleisch, survival depends on managing the needs of your group while navigating the island in the uncertain wait for rescue. The game’s central tension comes from the contrast between living off the land and, when circumstances become desperate, living off each other.

  • Players: 2–6
  • Play time: approximately 120 minutes
  • Setting: a desert island during a month-long wait for rescue
  • Core challenge: guide your group and find enough food to keep its members alive

With its stranded survivors, limited food, and grimly comic premise, Frischfleisch turns a rescue countdown into a struggle for continued survival. Every expedition across the island matters when the next meal may determine who makes it to the promised rescue.
