About this board game
The Confederate Rebellion is a solitaire American Civil War wargame for 1–2 players, with games lasting about 60 minutes. In the standard solitaire experience, you command the Union while the Rebellion is controlled by an AI.
Play continues over an unspecified number of turns, ending when either the victory or defeat conditions are met. Your central objective is to prevent the Rebellion from having the resources needed to build and maintain its army. If you achieve that goal, the Union wins; if the Rebellion controls four Union areas or Washington, D.C., the Union loses.
Every turn follows a structured sequence that gives the Union opportunities to build, move, and fight before the Rebellion responds.
- Union Build Phase: Build Armies, Gunboats, a General, a Fleet, and Forts. A Union General may also be sacked.
- Union Move Phase: Move Union units between Regions.
- Union Combat Phase: Resolve combat resulting from Union movement.
- Rebel Build Phase: The Rebels build units when permitted by certain circumstances.
- Rebel Move Phase: Rebel Generals move as permitted by a die roll.
- Rebel Combat Phase: Resolve combat resulting from Rebel movement.
The Confederate Rebellion is based on ACW Solitaire while introducing updated and new rules, clarifications, new artwork, and new scenarios. Optional two-player rules provide another way to experience its Union-versus-Rebellion conflict, while the solitaire system places the burden of responding to the AI-controlled Rebellion on one player.
