About this board game
Atua is an island-building board game for 1–6 players, lasting around 30 minutes and first released in 2023. Over nine rounds, each player develops a personal island by choosing and overlapping cards while managing a supply of coconuts.
Each player begins with a face-up village card. Four face-up island cards and three face-down draw piles provide the building materials for expansion. Every card features symbols, properties, and borders, giving you different ways to create sources of harmony as your island grows.
During each round, choose the card that best suits your plans, then overlap it on your existing island. Your choices can affect the island’s value, while the balance between residents and natural resources remains important. Keep watch over fishermen, birds, and volcanoes as you shape your developing island.
- Build your island across nine rounds.
- Manage coconuts while selecting island cards.
- Create sources of harmony through card placement.
- Choose when to convert harmony into points.
Three intermediate scoring rounds make timing crucial. You decide which sources of harmony to convert into points and when to do so, but each source can be scored only once. The player who gains the most harmony points wins.
Atua also includes expansion materials featuring resident and fate tiles, adding further scoring opportunities. For solo play, you can compete against the imaginary opponent Tahuma across four levels of difficulty.
