About this board game
Reglamentacja: Gra na Kartki is a 30-minute card game for 3–5 players, set during the winter of 1983 in Communist-era Poland. Your challenge is to collect the goods on your shopping list before your guests arrive.
Shopping is far from straightforward. Meat, sugar, and other goods are rationed, while the number and types of ration cards distributed rarely match what you need. Cards intended for the goods on your list may instead end up with other players.
Success depends on making clever, efficient exchanges with players standing in the same queue. You must negotiate and trade quickly, because the clerk will finish her tea in just one minute and begin selling the goods.
- Players: 3–5
- Play time: 30 minutes
- Setting: Communist-era Poland in the winter of 1983
- Focus: exchanging ration cards to obtain goods on your shopping list
Reglamentacja: Gra na Kartki was created as an educational tool by the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN), helping remind players why the Communist economy fell. The richly illustrated booklet included with the game adds historical context through an overview of the last decade of Communism in Poland and an explanation of how controlled goods were distributed.
With its urgent queue-side trading and historical subject matter, the game combines a race to complete your purchases with a vivid look at life under rationing.
