About this board game

Carcassonne inklusive Händler & Baumeister is a tile-placement game for 2–5 players, with games lasting about 45 minutes. This 2003 special edition combines the Carcassonne base game with the second expansion, Carcassonne: Traders & Builders, in a metal box.

Players gradually create a landscape inspired by southern France. On each turn, a player draws and places one tile beside those already played, matching cities to cities, roads to roads, and other connected features appropriately.

After placing a tile, the player may choose to place one of their meeples on an area shown on it. The meeple can become a knight in a city, a robber on a road, a monk in a cloister, or a farmer in the grassland. When the relevant area is complete, that meeple scores points for its owner.

  • Tile placement: Expand a shared landscape by connecting matching features.
  • Meeple decisions: Claim cities, roads, cloisters, or grasslands as different roles.
  • Tactical choices: Decide whether to develop your own project or place a tile near an opponent’s work.
  • Quick turns: Each turn involves placing one tile and optionally placing one meeple.

Every tile creates meaningful possibilities. You may want to enlarge a city, complete a road, or interfere with an opponent’s plans, while also considering whether it is worth committing your last available meeple.

Because turns are focused and straightforward, Carcassonne remains quick to play while offering plenty of choices. This edition is a compact way to experience the base game together with Traders & Builders, presented in a distinctive metal box.
