About this board game

Brazil: Imperial is a strategy game for 1–4 players, with an approximate play time of 100 minutes, in which monarchs build empires across Brazil between the 16th and 19th centuries.

Choose a monarch with distinctive strengths, prepare your personal game board and components, then select a starting point on a shared modular map. The map recreates real regions, while hidden places, rival states, and changing opportunities make each game different.

Brazil: Imperial combines worker placement, area majority, individual powers, and 4X-style exploration, expansion, exploitation, and extermination. Develop your territory by managing resources, constructing buildings, creating trade, recruiting military units, and gaining the support of famous historical personalities.

Each turn features an action phase and a movement phase. On your game board, choose how to advance your empire:

• Deploy military units to explore and defend your territory.
• Frame cards representing historic figures for special powers and victory points.
• Build farms, mines, cities, and other structures.
• Renovate older buildings to produce new resources.
• Manufacture wood, sugar cane, cotton, or coffee.
• Harbor to receive a small amount of basic resources.
• Trade basic resources for gold and special cards.

During movement, explore hidden locations or attack other players. Combat compares troop strength, with cards able to modify the result.

Complete missions to progress through three eras and unlock more powerful construction options. When a player completes the goals of the third era, the game ends and players tally their scores to determine which monarch earns the title of Brazilian Emperor.
