About this board game
Sail is a cooperative trick-taking game for exactly two players, played in about 20 minutes. Work together to guide your ship through turbulent waters, reach the final token, and avoid taking too much damage from the Kraken.
At the beginning of each round, players exchange cards before competing in a series of tricks. The winner of each trick helps determine which game actions are triggered, with outcomes shaped by the combination of trick winners and the players’ unique character skills.
Communication is severely limited. From the moment cards are dealt until the action phase ends, the crashing waves and roaring Kraken prevent players from discussing tactics or revealing information about their cards. You must interpret the situation and coordinate through your choices alone.
- Cooperative play: Both players share the same goal and must survive the voyage together.
- Trick-taking decisions: Card-play outcomes determine who wins each trick and which actions occur.
- Silent coordination: Players cannot communicate about tactics or card information during the round.
- Race against the Kraken: Reach the final token before the Kraken reaches the Death tile or the Kraken deck is exhausted.
Every round puts the crew under pressure as card exchanges, trick winners, character skills, and triggered actions interact. A successful voyage depends on making the most of limited information while keeping the ship moving forward.
In Sail, victory belongs to both players as a team: steer into the final token before the Kraken reaches the Death tile or its deck runs out. Fail to stay ahead of the danger, and the crew will be sleeping with the fish.
