About this board game
Expedition to Newdale is a campaign board game for 1–4 players aged 12 and up, with each chapter taking about 90 minutes to play. Set in the world of the Longsdale kingdom, it continues the story about five years after Oh My Goods! Escape to Canyon Brook, while remaining accessible without knowledge of the prequels.
The campaign offers around 12 hours of gameplay across different chapters, and any favorite chapter can be played again. Each chapter uses an appropriate central game board, while every player begins with a personal board, a coal mine, and five hand cards.
Every round unfolds through five phases, combining planning, worker availability, production, and carefully timed actions:
- Reveal an event, which can alter the round and determine a fixed number of available workers.
- Place numbered action markers from 1 to 4, planning the order in which actions will resolve.
- Draw additional workers from a bag, potentially enabling productions that were previously impossible.
- Resolve actions in marker order, adapting when the workers you need are not drawn.
- Use a free building action or draw hand cards, then resolve buildings that do not need workers.
This structure makes planning ahead essential, but luck and flexible alternatives matter too. A missing worker can prevent production, leave you without enough money to build, and disrupt a later action intended for that building.
After seven rounds, final scoring determines whether you win or lose. With its chapter-based structure, worker draws, numbered action markers, and evolving events, Expedition to Newdale combines strategic decisions with the uncertainty of pushing your luck.
