About this board game

Space Crusade is a mission-based science-fiction board game for 2–4 players, with games lasting about 120 minutes. Created through a collaboration between Milton Bradley UK and Games Workshop, it combines role-playing elements with a dark vision of the future.

Each game is presented as a mission. One participant becomes the Alien Player, while the remaining players become Marine Players who control the three Commanders and their Space Marines. This creates an opposing structure in which the Alien Player manages the alien side and the Marine Players work together.

The Mission Manual provides the framework for every scenario. At the start of the game, the Alien Player reads one of the missions aloud, then uses the corresponding map to prepare the game boards and Docking boards.

  • Mission-based play supported by a dedicated Mission Manual
  • An Alien Player facing the Marine Players
  • Three Commanders and their Space Marines under the players’ control
  • Blip tokens and Reinforcement tokens specified by each mission

The Mission Manual also tells the Alien Player how many Blip tokens to take, which Blip tokens are required, and which Reinforcement tokens may be used. These instructions define the setup for the selected mission before play begins.

With its blend of cooperative Marine play, an opposing Alien Player, and a grim futuristic setting, Space Crusade offers a substantial tabletop experience rooted in scenario-based play. Released in 1990, it brings together Milton Bradley’s role-playing influence and Games Workshop’s distinctive dark future.
