About this board game

Praga Caput Regni is a strategic board game for 1–4 players, with a play time of about 150 minutes, set in medieval Prague under King Charles IV.

Players take the roles of wealthy citizens organizing ambitious building projects throughout the city. By expanding their wealth and contributing to construction, they seek to earn the king’s favor as Prague grows toward becoming the capital of an empire.

At the heart of the game is the action crane, a game board offering six always-available actions. Their costs and benefits constantly shift, so each choice must be judged in the context of the opportunities currently available. Use these actions to increase your resources, improve the strength of selected actions, and shape the development of the city.

• Build New Prague City, the Charles Bridge, and city walls.
• Gain additional actions through your developing plans.
• Participate in the construction of St. Vitus Cathedral.

The game’s mechanisms are closely connected, rewarding players who recognize synergies between carefully timed actions and the benefits of civic construction. The shifting action costs and rewards create an evolving landscape in which the best opportunity can change from one moment to the next.

In Praga Caput Regni, every project can contribute to your rise in influence, but only one player will most impress King Charles by the end of the game.
