About this board game

Tsukuyumi: Full Moon Down is a no-luck strategy board game for 3–5 players, typically played in 180 minutes. In a devastated future, the Moon has crashed into Earth and revealed itself as Tsukuyumi, a white dragon and ancient Japanese god.

Humanity is nearing extinction, while animals and insects have mutated into powerful new species. Players choose one of five factions, each with its own units, abilities, strengths, and strategic demands. The faction matchups change from game to game, making timing, adaptation, and exploiting opponents’ weaknesses essential.

  • The Nomads: former soldiers seeking to claim the Moon’s remains.
  • The Boarlords: intelligent boars expanding fortified, terraformed homes.
  • The Cybersamurai: commanders of drones, fighting bots, supercomputers, and an orbital laser.
  • The Dark Seed: an enormous insect swarm that overwhelms enemies through sheer numbers.
  • Kampfgruppe 03: heirs to the Order of Marduk, determined to end Tsukuyumi’s existence.

Each round uses four phases. Players first apply their chosen white action card, then bid resources for blue, green, and red action cards. These cards determine combinations of actions, while the bidding order awards the available cards from A through F.

Players can improve initiative, draw Impact Cards, generate units, gather resources, move forces, and attack opposing areas and units. Onis are also placed, moved, and used during the red phase. Homezones and starting areas establish each faction’s position before the struggle begins.

Victory Points come from conquering and occupying areas, fulfilling goals, and completing faction missions. After the number of rounds selected by the players—usually three or four—the highest score wins. Tsukuyumi: Full Moon Down turns its asymmetrical factions and card-driven decisions into a demanding battle for survival and world domination.
