About this expansion
Sid Meier’s Civilization: The Board Game – Wisdom and Warfare is a 2013 expansion for 2–4 players, with games lasting about 180 minutes. It adds six civilizations to the battle for supremacy: the Aztecs, English, French, Japanese, Mongols, and Zulu, each with its own special powers.
New content broadens the choices available throughout the game. Wisdom and Warfare introduces additional technologies, relics, wonders, and culture cards, giving civilizations more options as they develop and pursue their goals.
For players seeking more tactical battles, the expansion includes an alternative set of combat cards. Each unit now has separate Strength and Health values, while battle outcomes are determined by comparing each side’s total health minus wounds, together with any combat bonuses.
This combat system makes damage matter even when a unit cannot be completely destroyed. Wounds can affect a unit in future turns, adding an ongoing consequence to battles rather than limiting their impact to a single confrontation.
- Six new civilizations: Aztecs, English, French, Japanese, Mongols, and Zulu
- New content: technologies, relics, wonders, and culture cards
- Alternative combat cards: separate Strength and Health values with wounds
- Starting a Building Program: a new city action that powers up a future production
- Social Policies: options such as Rationalism and Organized Religion for long-term planning
Wisdom and Warfare also introduces the “Starting a Building Program” city action, which provides a power-up when that city produces something. Social Policies, including “Rationalism” and “Organized Religion,” offer further choices and bonuses for civilizations planning ahead.
