About this expansion

Imperial Settlers: Why Can’t We Be Friends is a 2014 Empire Pack for Imperial Settlers, designed for 1–4 players with a 90-minute play time.

This expansion includes new common cards for the central deck, expanding the shared card pool used with the game. It also introduces new cards for each of the base game’s four factions, giving every faction new additions to use.

  • New common cards for the central deck
  • New cards for each of the four base-game factions
  • Two new cards for the solo game with some factions
  • The new open production effect

The standout addition is open production. This effect allows an opponent to visit your building and take the resource produced there, while giving you the worker who made that trek.

That exchange creates a distinctive new card effect to consider during play: an opponent receives the building’s produced resource, and you gain a worker to put to use once again. The result is an addition that connects opponents’ actions with your own supply of workers.

With cards for the central deck, all four factions, and selected solo play, Imperial Settlers: Why Can’t We Be Friends expands the card options available in the original game. Its open production cards add a clearly defined way for opponents to visit buildings and for workers to change hands.
