About this expansion
Gloom: Unhappy Homes is an expansion for 2–5 players that adds one player and 55 transparent cards to Gloom, with games lasting about 30 minutes. Mix its cards with your copy of Gloom to introduce new misfortunes, unusual effects, and a new family of doomed eccentrics.
In Gloom, players make their eccentric families suffer the greatest tragedies possible before helping them pass on to the well-deserved respite of death. Unhappy Homes adds new Modifiers, Events, and Untimely Deaths, all presented on transparent cards that combine with the base game.
The expansion’s new family is the artistes of Le Canard Noir, a dingy café populated by washed-up bohemians. Tormented painters, neurotic models, destitute poets, a troubled actress, and a sickly courtesan pursue creative endeavors that always seem to end in disaster.
- Five Residences: Light-blue cards placed next to their related family at the start of the game.
- Mysteries: Dark-blue cards that are shuffled into the deck before play.
- Expanded play: The set adds enough content for one additional player.
A Mystery is the only card that can be placed on a Residence, and it can be played on any Residence as one of your two plays. It gives that Residence’s player a special effect and Pathos points that count toward the final Family Value. The Mystery remains even if its playing requirements are later lost, and you may discard one from your hand as a free play.
With its morbid new cards and memorable Black Duck family, Gloom: Unhappy Homes gives the game a fresh collection of tragic possibilities for your next gathering.
