About this expansion

Gloom: Unfortunate Expeditions is a Gloom card game expansion for 2–5 players, with games lasting about 30 minutes. It adds one player and 55 transparent cards filled with new misfortunes, events, and untimely deaths.

Mix the cards from this expansion with your copy of Gloom to introduce fresh ways for eccentric families of misfits to suffer tragic fates before reaching the respite of death. The set also adds a new family of intrepid explorers who have encountered misfortune across the globe.

  • 55 transparent cards for use with Gloom
  • New Modifiers, Events, and Untimely Deaths
  • A new family featuring Colonel Bumpersnoot and Lady Bumpersnoot
  • The Towering Treehouse Residence card for use with Unhappy Homes

The expansion’s central feature is the introduction of expeditions. Only one expedition can be in play at a time, and its rules affect every player for as long as it remains active. This creates a shared game condition that can influence everyone’s cards and decisions.

When you play a Modifier of Untimely Death that shows an expedition symbol, resolve its immediate effects first. Then replace the current expedition with the expedition shown on that card. Some cards also provide special effects when an expedition is already active, giving the timing of each play an important role.

With its transparent cards, global expedition rules, and memorable explorer family, Gloom: Unfortunate Expeditions expands the original game with new ways to pursue suitably unfortunate outcomes.
