About this expansion
Alien Frontiers: The Mind Control Helmet is a special card for 2–4 players, featuring a powerful ship-control effect for the 60-minute Alien Frontiers experience first released in 2011.
Pay 3 Fuel to move an opponent’s ship to a different Orbital Facility, then use that ship as if it were your own. Because it draws from a larger pool of opponents’ ships, the Mind Control Helmet costs more to use than the Orbital Teleporter while making it easier to find the right number for your goal.
The controlled ship must retain its value during the move. It cannot be moved onto or off the Terraforming Station, and the Mind Control Helmet cannot be used at the same facility from which the ship came.
Its restrictions are central to using the card effectively:
- You cannot remove a ship from the Terraforming Station.
- You cannot change a ship’s value in transit.
- You cannot use the card at the facility where the ship began.
- You cannot move a ship onto the Terraforming Station.
These limitations distinguish the Mind Control Helmet from the Orbital Teleporter, adding an extra restriction to its broader access to opponents’ ships. The card offers a direct way to redirect another player’s ship while requiring careful attention to Fuel, facility locations, ship values, and the Terraforming Station.
Two Mind Control Helmet cards were included free with pre-orders of the base game’s second print run. A limited quantity was also available separately, and the Mind Control Helmet is included with all copies of the game from the third edition onward.
